  One of my favorite professors! I have taken 2 classes with him & would definitely recommend taking his classes. He does cold call in class for participation, but gives the option to do a discussion assignment if you dont like speaking in class. Exams are online and super easy. cold calling isnt very difficult, just skim the case online before class

  You have to go to class because he does cold calling as his attendance (very anxiety inducing). Exams were easy. 5 essays but 2 are optional. Extra credit you have to work for. Groups you with random people at the beginning of the semester so hopefully they actually do work.

  You will have to read the cases to prepare and have to attend class because he randomly picks students and asks them questions for participation points. Exams were online and easy. Get the supplemental he wrote not the textbook, textbook was useless.

  A teacher that cares about his students and will help you out with curving grades. Be ready for group projects, though. There was 4. Overall 10/10!

  I loved Professor Rivera. Highly recommend getting his textbook everything he wants you to know is in there. There is a lot of extra credit. He is very simple and to the point. You don't need any previous knowledge. Attendance is kind of mandatory but we always got our super early. Definitely take this class he's awesome!!

  My favorite professor so far. Lectures are engaging; you will have to read a lot of cases, but they're interesting, so it isn't terrible. 2 exams, 3 group activities, and 5 papers. Overall, I definitely recommend Rivera as a professor.

  Loved Rivera and this class, but beware, it's harder than CJL2000. No supplementary book, you actually need to read the cases. Group projects are a lot harder and require more work. 4 non-proctored exams, 4 group projects. FYI, if people in your group aren't participating, good luck, Rivera does nothing. Overall, it's still a pretty easy class.

  Best criminology professor I've had thus far. 2 exams, 3 group projects. He uses the socratic method for attendance. If your name is called, you better have read the readings for the day and be there. I only got called maybe once or twice a month, but some people never got called and some got called once a week. Get his supplementary book!!

  Loved this class. 2 exams, 3 group projects, module quizzes, 3 easy essays. Class participation/attendance does weigh heavily on your grade so read the cases and go to class. I would recommend buying his textbook over the Schubert one if you can only get one. DO ANY/ALL extra credit he offers. If you have a 85% in class, 5 extra credit points=90%!!

  Kinda tough class. Lots of reading/writing. 3 group projects rely heavy on group participation. I was in crappy group who barely communicated, our submitted assignments were slapped together, we received low grade scores. If not for extra credit opportunity, I would have flunked class. 95% of Quiz/Exam answers come from lectures, almost verbatim.

  His lectures keep you engaged. There are quizzes for each module, 1 individual assignment, 3 group assignments, and 4 exams. It is very spaced out so I was never really stressed. The main thing is each class, you have to read cases & submit your name beforehand to be called on. But you can do discussions instead if you don't like to talk in class.

  Such a great professor. Lectures were entertaining. You don't have to attend but you will have to submit a discussion post if you don't elect to participate in class (you submit your name the night before). Not a harsh grader. Offers sooo much extra credit!! Brought my grade up from an 89 to a solid A. Exam questions are word for word from the pps

  I had so much fun in this class and learned so much! His lectures are witty and do a good job of explaining complex ideas. You really get to practice critical thinking and how to use logical reasoning. The class is challenging though. My group thankfully had high participation which earned us extra credit and boosted my grade to an A.

  By far my favorite professor at UF. He makes law and criminology super entertaining, and you can tell he puts a lot of effort into his lectures. Graded on quizzes, exams discussions, and assignments that you complete in a group (my group was great at getting stuff done). This was my second class with him, I also enjoyed his CJL2000 course!

  LOVED the class and rivera. His lectures were interesting and the quizzes/exams matched so as long as you understand most of the material he's teaching its an easy A. Participation was either discussion post or put your name in the day before and risk him calling on you. Everything was straight forward and he was flexible. Would take again!
